Project Funding Opportunities
Funds available for programs are divided between the four counties each year. Counties set their priorities and request money up to the amount in their allocation. Once mandatory programs have been funded, there may be money remaining to implement optional programs. If you are interested in obtaining funding for one of the optional programs, please contact your local Board of County Commissioners first to obtain approval to apply for funding. Then contact the District Office for application materials. Local governments, agencies, businesses, corporations, private enterprises, non-profit organizations and educational institutions with their primary place of business within this solid waste district may apply.
Purchasing items made with recycled content encourages the growth of markets for materials collected through local recycling programs. Items purchased must be available for use by the general public at no charge, and consist of at least 20% recycled content by weight, exclusive of metal. Examples are picnic tables and benches, playground equipment, and mulch made from scrap tires. Applicants must provide at least 50% of the purchase price of items.
Recycling and Reduction
Recycling programs that enhance the existing countywide recycling opportunities through curbside collection, drop-off collection or processing of collected material at a recycling center may help the district meet its recycling goals. Projects must not duplicate existing services and must divert material that is currently being landfilled to be considered for funding. A five year commitment to operating the funded recycling program is required.
