Licensed Waste Haulers
Licensed Landfills
Licensed Construction and Demolition Debris Facilities
In order to haul waste in our solid waste district, haulers must register with the health department in each county where they do business. Before you allow a company to remove waste from your property, you are encouraged to ask to see their registration. If they cannot provide it, they are not operating within local regulations and should not be hired.
Taking the place of the old "dumps", landfills are required to undergo rigorous permitting and operating review in order to receive solid waste from the public. They have extensive safeguards to prevent leakage into groundwater and must monitor the site for 30 years after it closes. They are not permitted to receive hazardous waste, that material goes to a different kind of disposal facility.
These facilities are limited to accepting debris that results from constructing, modifiying or demolishing structures. They are not permitted to accept solid or liquid waste, hazardous waste, or radioactive waste. Older facilities have no safeguards against leakage into groundwater, but newly permitted sites have some protections established by law.
