About Us
Our solid waste district formed in 1989 in response to the passage of House Bill 592. The four counties work together to reduce reliance upon landfills and to increase recycling. Revenue is derived from disposal fees collected by four in-district municipal solid waste landfills, at a rate of $1.25 per ton for waste generated within the district or outside of Ohio, and $3.50 per ton for waste generated by other solid waste districts in Ohio, as well as a generation fee of $2.00 per ton for waste generated in our four counties, collected by landfills wherever the waste is disposed.
With a population approaching 365,000 and covering 2166 square miles, our district is a mix of urban and rural areas. The western portions of both Licking and Fairfield Counties are expanding rapidly with the growth of nearby Columbus.
